A CLINICAL OBSERVATION OF 80 VAGICAL HYSTERECTOMIES

Abstract
The present study is an observation of 80 vaginal hysterectomies porformed in a 5 year and 2 month period from 1960 to 1955 by the author. Eighty vaginal hysterectomies with and without associated procedures have been analyzed and as to the age, indications, Pathological findings and complications.
The primary indications are tabulated. Pelvic relaxation, uterine retroversion, abnormal uterine bleeding, chronic cervicitis, dysmenorrhea and sterilization are more than half. The less common indications are uterine myomas, adenomyosis uteri, atypicalhy perplasia of the endomtirum, chronic subinvolution of the uterus, carcinoma in situ of the cervix, posthy datidiform mole and complications after artificial interruption of pregnancy. Other unexpected pathological findings are one case of cervical pregnancy, one case of interstitial tubal pregnancy and one caseof squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix, Stage I.O perative complications include excessive vaginal bleeding in 7 cases. Postoperative complication sinclude a significant fever in 4 cases urinary tractinfection in 3 cases and excessive vaginal bleeding with pelvic hematom in one case. No death occurredand 77 patients were discharged within 10 dayspostoperatively.
